Virginia Old and New

Finally getting a bit of a chance to go through my archives and pick out some material I haven't highlighted yet. Like this shot, taken at Ash Grove in Vienna, showing the contrast between Thomas Fairfax's workshop in the foreground, and one of Pulte's modern creations in the rear.

Casement Barricade

A novel approach to flood prevention at the Lahey/Richard house. When your home turns 250 years old, I'm sure you'll need similar hacks to keep the outside, out.

Repurposed

This building served in an earlier incarnation as a 19th-century kitchen addition to the Lahey/Richard house. When the Lahey family purchased the property back in the 1940's, it was moved away from the home and converted into an art studio, and a brand new brick wing was added in its place.

Peek-a-Boo

Playing a little game of hide and seek with the 249-year-old Lahey house.

Lantern

I really can't stand to end the night on a negative note, so to make up for it, here's a lantern from the Lahey/Richard House.

With some slight improvements, courtesy the good Thos. Edison.

Classless Society

Back to our placeholder barn, which seems to have been suffering from the side effects of decades of social engineering.

The locks to this door have been broken, the inside has been pretty thoroughly invaded, and the once proud building defaced with the inane scribblings of a mental giant or two.

Somehow, I'm sure these insolent marauders have quite an enormous sense of self-esteem.

Replacements

Okay, one last horrid shot from the Blackberry.

Here's a car dealership here in Tyson's Corner that's slated to be demolished. It only relates to "Rural" Fairfax in the sense that at the time it was built, way back around the 1960's, Tyson's Corner was just beginning its transformation from rural farmland into the busy urban corridor that it is today. And this dealership, built in the modernist architecture of the era, is a reminder of that vast transitional period.

Peel

Here's another placeholder from our intriguing HOA property for now. The roof of this one particular outbuilding seems to be having some issues.
